SSP do the Double

Match Report - 3rd June

1st Team

Stalybridge St Pauls were this week’s opposition and on a sunny afternoon at Bankfield, Charlesworth won the toss and elected to bowl first.

Stalybridge were bowled out for 170 in 40.2 overs with captain Richard Wright top scoring with 35.  Steve Monks took on wicket keeping duties and claimed an early victim of the bowling of Gareth Evans but then had to be replaced by Nick Bennett after taking one on the end of the thumb.  John Wardle was the pick of the bowlers taking 3-35 from his 12 overs, G Evans 3-41, B Whiston 2-30 and a wicket each for Wood and Bhojani.

Charlesworth then had 49 overs to reach their target but lost regular wickets and found themselves 54-5 at the half way point.  A 7###sup/sup### wicket partnership of 47 between Phil Elliott and Tilak Bhojani got Charlesworth back on track but when Bhojani went for 33 with just over 5 overs remaining, Phil Elliott ran out of partners and finished 42 not out as Charlesworth were bowled out for 148 (23 runs short of victory). J Brady was the pick of the Stalybridge bowlers with 4-36 from his 12 over spell.
